    No more Tesco

For lunch today I wanted one of my favorite sandwiches that I used to make in England. So I went to Albertsons to look for similar bread and meat. I couldn't find either.

I never thought I'd be saying I miss British food. I still can easily do without the restaurants and fast food places there. But I'm really missing some of the great food available at Tesco and (to a lesser extent) Sainsbury's and Asda.

We have a British food place here in Dallas. We took Alyene there to surprise her one Saturday. She showed us all the food she remembered eating... there are stacks and stacks of canned custard, in case you're wondering. If you miss anything in particular that won't spoil in the mail, maybe I can send you something. Or you'll just have to come back down here to visit again. *grin*

Yeah, there's one of those in San Jose that I went to a couple weeks ago. I don't know if there's one in Oklahoma City but if there is I'll probably go there a lot -- though they almost definitely won't have my sandwich stuff.

If OKC doesn't have one I may be in Dallas soon

Hey, you should come over to the 813 Cafe sometime for some British tucker, only I tend to live mostly on Curry which I seem to recall from a previous post that you don't enjoy too much- which is high crime and treason in itself. Laura and I just ordered a few cookery books, including "Great British Recipies". Now, I was as surprised as you at this title. Are there Great British Recipies out there. If so, where have they been. I figured it must just mean recipies from Great Britain. But, home made pork pie... at least we can guarentee there will be no monkey's kidneys in it.

public mis-spelling of the word recipe, also high crime and treason.

813 Cafe? I'm afraid I don't know where/what that is, but it sounds great!

Curry is something I don't miss, but I do kinda miss hearing people talk about it. I still can't figure out how so many people like it so much.

Pork pie sounds good. I miss those meat pies. It would be so nice if there was a Greggs around here.

By the way, I think it's hillarious that "curry-eating" is one of the little insulting adjectives that people from other parts of the UK use about the English.

"i need curry to live" is quite funny too!! I know people in Reading who've uttered that exact phrase.

I was only in England for 3 weeks, but I still miss Sainsbury's (it was close to where I was staying in Oxford). I also miss the street vans that would serve almost anything you could want to those of us who were out late. Let's hope that Great British Recipes book gets some exposure at pot providence!
