    New name for this blog

Now that I've been back in the U.S. for more than 140 days, it seems appropriate to change the name of this blog.

My top choice right now is "The Haugland Parameter". It's a spin off names like "The O'Reilly Factor". A parameter is a measurable factor or independent variable or constant, usually in an equation. I use them a lot in my research, but I think it's also a good metaphor for how I relate to the world. Originally, "the Haugland parameter" is a term that a committee member suggested (at my dissertation defense) that one of the variables in my forecast model could be called some day.

What do you think? Any other/better ideas? Or should I not rename it?

No, I think you should rename it, but perhaps save the aforementioned title for your equation variable.

And I think it's safe to say that everyone sees the world that way. We all have a constant that we measure the world by, or base our judgments on. I don't think you'll meet a single person who doesn't. Not everyone talks about them, but we do have a "paradigm". Maybe that's what you can call your blog instead: The Haugland Paradigm. It makes more sense to me.

A "paradigm" is something that everyone has, so that's not very unique. But does "everyone" really see the world though a set of mathematical (meteorological or otherwise) equations? I don't think so. Am I wrong?

Haha. It's not up to me to name a parameter after myself. But if some day the scientific community believes it is warranted, it's their prerogative.

A rename is warranted...come back to America, Matt, come back!! How about Matt's Microclimate, or Matonet (like Mesonet), or Mattereological?

I like the idea of renaming it. Parameter seems to imply though that you and your life is stagnant, and from reading your blog that doesn't seem true. How about parabola? I don't know all that much about higher level math, but it seems like a parabola has a lot of moving and fixed parts--maybe a better metaphor?

You said it yourself: the Independent Variable. Use it, or I will.
